MultiVersus Confirms LeBron James, Rick & Morty
MultiVersus publisher Warner Bros. confirms that the previously-rumored LeBron James and the titular team of Rick and Morty will be added to the game.
The roster of MultiVersus grows even bigger with the official confirmation of basketball star LeBron James and the titular duo of Rick & Morty. After countless rumors and speculation, Warner Bros. announced its own answer to crossover brawling games like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl last November with MultiVersus - a platform-based free-for-all featuring iconic characters from DC Comics, Cartoon Network, and Looney Tunes. While MultiVersus is largely aimed at a general audience thanks to its cartoony art style, the game's roster isn't shying away from Warner Bros.' more adult-oriented properties, including characters like Arya Stark from Game of Thrones alongside Bugs Bunny, Batman, and Shaggy of Scooby-Doo fame.
Not all of MultiVersus's combatants have been revealed yet, and fans have speculated about which famous characters will join the ranks of this exciting new brawler title. The game may also plan to expand the roster after release, as the recently leaked MultiVerus Founder's Pack DLC hints that 19 additional characters could be introduced over time by way of MultiVersus's live service model. For now, players are likely excited for the chance to take each other on in cartoonish combat as beloved characters including theIron Giant and Jake the Dog from Adventure Time during MultiVersus's upcoming live beta.
Warner Bros. Games has just confirmed some of the most popular rumors surrounding new MultiVersus characters, announcing three new fighters: NBA superstar and Space Jam: A New Legacy lead LeBron James and the dimension-hopping grandfather-grandson team of Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith from the hit Adult Swim show Rick and Morty. A new trailer released on the official MultiVersus YouTube channel highlights LeBron James in particular, showing off his basketball-based fighting style that contains several helpful assist moves that can be adapted to any opponent or playstyle. LeBron James will be playable when the MultiVersus open beta begins on July 26. Meanwhile, a press statement from Warner Bros. Games states Rick Sanchez will have a wide variety of attacks surrounding his trademark Portal Gun, including summoning the helpful Mr. Meeseeks to assist in battle - and that he will be added to the MultiVersus roster as part of Season 1 on an undisclosed date. Morty Smith's release will coincide with the launch of MultiVersus's Season 1 launch on August 9, and the awkward teen sidekick will feature attacks centered around counter-moves and projectiles like grenades - as well as the ability to whip himself at opponents.
MultiVersus's previously-mentioned open beta will essentially serve as a soft launch for the live-service multiplayer crossover title that will give players access to nine characters to play as. Some fans have already gotten to try out MultiVersus in previews and early test runs, and the reaction to the game and its Super Smash Bros-style combat has been largely positive so far. An area that many feel MultiVersus surpassed its Nintendo counterpart in, is its support of competitive and professional play - even drawing the attention of big-name professional e-Sports gamers in the process.
Players will already have a colorful assortment of famous Warner Bros-owned characters when MultiVersus begins its Open Beta later this week, and it seems even more fun will be added with LeBron James and Rick & Morty joining the roster later on. All of these characters have had their share of crossovers and dimension-spanning action on the big and small screen, but MultiVersus could be the most bizarre adventure either LeBron or Rick and Morty have been a part of to date.
